Introduction 

It is a type of topical antibacterial agent which has been a mainstay for the treatment of acne. One most important advantage of it over other antibacterial agents is that bacterial resistance does not develop due to it. Also, with its antibacterial effect, it may also have anti-inflammatory actions. This property is due to blocking the ROS production in neutrophils in some dose-dependent manner. Benzoyl Peroxide can be used alone or in combination with other agents, but in both ways, it has remained an important treatment option.

One popular study measured the bacterial counts from the individuals having its treatment. Also, 6% of benzoyl peroxide gel is more effective for suppressing acne when compared to 1% clindamycin gel. Other studies have also shown that, when combined with topical clindamycin, its treatment always resulted in decreased P. acnes counts and hence improvement in the number of lesions. Additionally, with the concomitant use of BPO and clindamycin, the number of clindamycin-resistant bacteria was not increased.

Description :Enzoyl peroxide is effective for reducing the number and severity of acne lesions. BPO has a bactericidal effect on Propionibacterium acnes bacteria associated with acne and does not induce antibiotic resistance.It may be combined with salicylic acid, sulfur, erythromycin or clindamycin (antibiotics), or adapalene (a synthetic retinoid). Two common combination drugs include benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin and adapalene/benzoyl peroxide, an unusual formulation considering most retinoids are deactivated by peroxides. Combination products such as benzoyl peroxide/clindamycin and benzoyl peroxide/salicylic acid appear to be slightly more effective than benzoyl peroxide alone for the treatment of acne lesions.Benzoyl peroxide for acne treatment is typically applied to the affected areas in gel, cream, or liquid, in concentrations of 2.5% increasing through 5.0%, and up to 10%. No strong evidence supports the idea that higher concentrations of benzoyl peroxide are more effective than lower concentrations

Benzoyl peroxide commonly causes initial dryness and sometimes irritation, although the skin develops tolerance after a week or so. A small percentage of people are much more sensitive to it and liable to suffer burning, itching, crusting, and possibly swelling.It is sensible to apply the lowest concentration and build up as appropriate. Once tolerance is achieved, increasing the quantity or concentration and gaining tolerance at a higher level may give better subsequent acne clearance.Irritation can also be reduced by avoiding harsh facial cleansers and wearing sunscreen prior to sun exposure.

Application  Epichlorohydrin (ECH) is another versatile chemical intermediate used in a variety of applications, including epoxy resins, textiles, paper products, inks, dyes, automotive and aircraft parts, biocides, personal care products, and ion-exchange resins.

Epichlorohydrin is an organochlorine compound and an epoxide. This is a colorless liquid with a pungent, garlic-like odor, insoluble in water, but miscible with most polar organic solvents. Epichlorohydrin is a highly reactive compound and is used in the production of glycerol, plastics,epoxy glues and resins, and elastomers. In contact with water, epichlorohydrin hydrolyzes to 3-MCPD, a carcinogen found in food.

Applications Of Epichlorohydrin :

Epichlorohydrin is an extremely versatile chemical intermediate used to produce a wide variety of other products, including:
  • Epoxy resins – to offer corrosion resistance, solvent and chemical resistance, hardness and adhesion.
  • Textiles – to improve wool’s resistance to moths, prepare fibers for dyeing, impart wrinkle resistance and prepare anti-static agents and textile sizings.
  • Papers, inks and dyes – to produce wet-strength paper sizing, special printing inks, textile print pastes, and ultimately paper and paperboard products that have improved printability, pigment retention, folding endurance and gloss.
  • Ion exchange resins – to produce anion exchangers used to clean polluted air and water.
  • Other applications that use EPI as a raw material include surface active agents used in cosmetics and shampoos; rubbers exhibiting resistance to extreme temperatures, fuel, oil and ozone for automotive and aircraft parts, seals and gaskets, and a myriad of other uses; and agricultural products such as insecticides, bactericides and fungicides.

USES: Lithium chloride is mainly used for the production of lithium metal by electrolysis of a LiCl/KCl melt at 450 °C (842 °F). LiCl is also used as a brazing flux for aluminium in automobile parts. It is used as a desiccant for drying air streams

Lithium chloride is a chemical compound with a chemical formula “LiCl”. The salt is a normal ionic compound, although the Li+ ion is small in size, it produces unrecognized effects for other alkali metal chlorides, such as exceptional solubility in polar solvents and its hygroscopic properties.In organic synthesis, it has some specialized applications such as an additive in the Stille reaction. Most noteworthy, it has biochemical applications that we use to precipitate RNA from cellular extracts.

Another application o lithium chloride is that we use it as a flame colorant to produce dark red flames. In the calibration of hygrometers, they use it as a relative humidity standard.

It can be used as a hygrometer. In addition, when exposed to air it salts from deliquescent self-solution. Furthermore, the equilibrium LiCl concentration of the resulting solution may directly relate to the relative humidity of the air.

Industries use its molten form to prepare carbon nanotubes, lithium niobate, and grapheme. Besides, it shows very strong acaricidal properties

Chemical properties of lithium chloride
